In 2009, for the first time in 17 years, Peter Aerts do not participate in the final of the K1 Grand Prix because of Alistair Overeem, who was eliminated in the Final 16, the last step before the tournament qualificitive December.
This year, for the 17th time in 18 years (since the K1 Grand Prix in 1993), veteran Peter Aerts is among the best. He who has once won the race three times (1994, 1995 and 1998), achieves the feat of beating the new and giganstesque (2m12) champion that everyone considered virtually invincible: Semmy Schilt (four-time winner of the race: 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009). And in the final, he found the young Alistair Overeem, the defector "mixed martial arts", his last year's winner ...
