The first edition of SportAccord World Combat Games (Fighting Games SportAccord), a multi-sport competition world dedicated to martial arts and combat sports, took place from August 28 to September 5, 2010 in Beijing, China. More than 1000 athletes from five continents have participated and 118 gold medals were distributed.
Two nations were particularly prominent, well ahead of all others
- Russia (1st)
- and China, the host country (2nd).
Yet one might have expected to see others shine as inventors of the 13 sports on the Games:
- Japan through aikido, judo, ju-jitsu, karate, kendo, kick boxing ("low kick") and sumo;
- Great Britain through the boxing;
- the United States through kickboxing (semi-contact "and" full contact ") and" grappling (one of two styles of fighting shown);
- Thailand with the muay thai;
- Russia thanks to sambo;
- thanks to the Korea Taekwondo
- Greece through the "Pankration" (one of two wrestling styles shown);
- And China thanks to wushu.
Japan is ranked 6th, 7th Thailand, South Korea 18th, Britain 26th, the U.S. 40th and 41st Greece.
