The Islands by Hi parapets

Duration : about an hour to Isle Royale, a little less for the island of St. Joseph
Difficulty: no
Danger: Falling coconuts possible

At 15 km north of Kourou , this small archipelago, consisting of Royale , the Ile Saint-Joseph and the Ile du Diable, saw installation in 1852 Exile.
The galleys of these islands , became over time one of the most famous prisons in the world, including famous convicts such as Captain Dreyfus, Seznec or Butterfly . Today is a beautiful site or walk in the prison remains and swimming in clear water are honored.

To a good hour by boat from Kourou, this heavenly place today, was a living hell for thousands of convicts who have stayed there between 1852 and 1954, the date of closure of the prison in Guyana.
Approximately 60 000 men and women have indeed crossed the ocean in bilges, to arrive at St Laurent du Maroni and be dispersed in the various prisons of Guyana.
When addressing the Isle Royale, it's hard to imagine how lived some 20 to 30 000 convicts who have stayed there and the vast majority of them are dead! Unable to escape (or almost), sharks were very numerous at that time.
